Throughout the year, we participate in a variety of student competitions across the Netherlands. These events strike the perfect balance between sports and socializing: youāll travel to different cities, compete alongside teammates, and connect with swimmers and water polo players from all over the country.
Whether you’re new to racing or water polo, or already competing at a high level, everyone is welcome thereās no pressure to attend every event, so you can join as often as it suits you.
Most competitions kick off with a pre-party the night before, and the major events like the NSZK and NSWK end or start with legendary (after-)parties. Itās a fantastic way to stay active, compete, and fully experience student life.

NSZK
The NSZK is the largest student swimming competition in the Netherlands, consisting of four meets each academic year. Each event takes place in a different city, offering four weekends of sport, travel, and team bonding. Every NSZK begins with a pre-party on Friday, followed by the swim meet on Saturday. The day concludes with a group dinner and a closing party. Itās a full weekend experience that combines competition with social activities.
Swimmers of all levels take part from first-time competitors to national-level athletes making the NSZK accessible and inclusive. With around 400 to 500 participants at each meet, the atmosphere is always energetic and supportive.

NSWK
The NSWK is the national student water polo competition, designed specifically for student teams from across the Netherlands. Each season consists of four tournament-style match days, offering both new and experienced players the opportunity to compete in a supportive and enjoyable environment. On average, around 12 teams from 9 different student associations participate, divided into two levels: one for beginners and one for more experienced players.
This structure ensures that everyone can take part at a level that suits them. The NSWK is an excellent way to gain match experience, connect with other student teams, and enjoy water polo in a relaxed and social setting. Occasionally, student teams from non-student clubs are also invited to join.

Swim-In Leiden
The Swim-in Leiden is an annual open water swimming event held in the Maresingel, in the heart of the city. With distances ranging from 250 meters to 3 kilometers, it offers something for swimmers of all levels.
In addition to the athletic challenge, the event also supports a good cause. This year, participants will raise funds for a childrenās hospital, making the Swim-in not only an enjoyable event but also a meaningful one.

ONKS
The ONKS is a national student swimming competition similar in spirit to the NSZK, but held only once a year. What sets it apart is its broader participationāalongside student teams, non-student swimming associations are also invited to compete.
The ONKS offers a full weekend experience, including a pre-party the night before and a closing party after the competition. Itās a highlight of the student swimming calendar, bringing together a wide range of athletes for both competitive racing and social events.
